A common question is why laser hair reduction requires a package of 6 to 8 sessions. The answer lies in the biology of how hair grows.
The Three Phases of Hair Growth
- Anagen (Active Growth): The hair is attached to the blood supply and melanin is abundant. Laser is only effective during this phase.
- Catagen (Transition): The hair detaches from the blood supply.
- Telogen (Resting): The hair falls out, and the follicle rests.
The Catch
At any given time, only about 15% to 20% of your hair is in the Anagen phase. When you get a laser session, it permanently destroys those active follicles. However, the laser cannot affect the follicles in the Catagen or Telogen phases.
Timing is Everything
By spacing sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart, we wait for a new batch of dormant follicles to enter the Anagen phase so they can be targeted. Completing the full series ensures we eventually catch every follicle in its active phase.
