After a hair transplant, you want to protect your new grafts at all costs. But you also might want to hide the scabs and redness while you heal. So, when can you cover your head?
The First 10 Days: Total Protection
For the first 7 to 10 days, the grafts are not yet firmly anchored into the scalp. Any friction can permanently dislodge them. During this crucial window, do not wear any tight caps, beanies, or helmets. If you must go outside in the sun, a very loose-fitting, adjustable baseball cap can be rested gently on the head, ensuring the fabric does not touch the transplanted area at all.
After 14 Days: Caps Allowed
By day 14, the grafts are secure, and the scabs have typically washed off. You can safely wear a soft cap or hat. Ensure it is clean to prevent any risk of infection.
When Can You Wear a Helmet?
Motorcycle helmets are heavy and cause significant friction and sweating. We strongly advise waiting at least 4 weeks (and ideally 6 weeks) before wearing a tight helmet. This ensures the grafts are deeply rooted and the scalp is fully healed.
