Laser Hair Reduction for PCOS: What to Expect and How It Works

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) often causes hirsutism — excess hair growth on the face, chest, or back — due to elevated androgen levels. For many women, constant waxing or threading is painful and causes skin irritation. Laser Hair Reduction (LHR) offers a much better solution.

Does It Work for PCOS?

Yes, but managing expectations is crucial. Because PCOS is a hormonal condition, new hair follicles can be recruited over time. LHR will permanently reduce the existing active hair, but it cannot stop hormonal imbalances from stimulating new growth in the future.

The Treatment Plan

Patients with PCOS usually require more sessions than the standard 6-8. You might need 8-12 initial sessions, followed by maintenance sessions a few times a year.

Medical Management

For the best results, LHR should be combined with medical management of PCOS (such as hormonal therapy or insulin sensitisers) prescribed by your doctor. Controlling the internal hormonal environment significantly improves the external laser results.
